Mark a Recipe as an Inventory Item

Mark a Recipe as an Inventory Item when you want FlexiBake to track quantities on hand for a recipe the same way it tracks stock for other inventory records. This is especially useful for work-in-progress recipes, pre-made fillings, doughs, batters, or other recipe items you produce in advance and keep in stock.

What marking a recipe as an inventory item does

When a recipe is marked as an inventory item, FlexiBake begins treating it as a stock-tracked record. This allows the recipe to appear in inventory-related tools and makes it easier to monitor how much of that recipe is available on hand.

Why this matters

Marking a recipe as an inventory item is helpful when:

  • You produce the recipe ahead of time and keep it available for later use
  • You want the recipe to appear in inventory adjustments without showing non-inventory items
  • You want production processes to consume ingredients and add the resulting recipe quantity into inventory

Before You Begin

Confirm the recipe should be tracked in stock

Before marking a recipe as an inventory item, confirm that the recipe is something you actually keep on hand rather than making fresh each time without tracking remaining quantity.

Common examples include:
  • Dough prepared ahead of time
  • Filling or icing stored for later use
  • Work-in-progress recipe items used by other recipes or products

Note: Not every recipe needs to be marked as an inventory item. This setting is most useful for recipes you want FlexiBake to track as available stock.

Mark the Recipe as an Inventory Item

Update the recipe record
Step 1

Open the Inventory Centre and click Maintain Recipes.
Open Maintain Recipes from the Inventory Centre.

Step 2

Find the recipe you want to update, then double click it or click it once and select Edit.

Step 3

Click the Production tab.
Open the Production tab on a recipe record.

Step 4

Near the bottom of the screen, check the Inventory Item box.

Step 5

Click OK to save the recipe.

What Changes After You Mark It

Inventory tracking behavior

Once the recipe is marked as an inventory item, FlexiBake will treat it as a stock-tracked recipe record. This allows the recipe to be included in inventory-related processes and on-hand reporting reviews.

Inventory adjustments

Recipes marked as inventory items can appear in IA Slip workflows without needing the Display Non-Inventory Items as well option turned on. This makes it easier to adjust quantities on hand when the recipe is being actively tracked in inventory.

Tip: If a recipe should be counted, adjusted, or monitored as available stock, mark it as an inventory item before relying on IA Slip adjustments.

Work-in-progress production

When recipe inventory is used in production workflows, FlexiBake can consume the required Raw Material or recipe inventory and add the resulting recipe into inventory as it is produced. This is especially useful for work-in-progress items made in advance.

Troubleshooting

The recipe does not appear on a New IA Slip

If a recipe is not showing on a New IA Slip screen, one possible cause is that the recipe is not marked as an inventory item. You can either:

  • Mark the recipe as an inventory item, or
  • Turn on Display Non-Inventory Items as well when working in the IA Slip screen.
The recipe is inactive

If the recipe is inactive, it may still not appear in the expected list even after it has been marked as an inventory item. In that case, update the view settings to include inactive recipes and confirm the recipe is active.

Warning: Marking a recipe as an inventory item does not override inactive status. The recipe must still be visible and active for most relevant workflows.
