Set Product Batch Size

Set Product Batch Size so FlexiBake can understand how many sell-by units a full production batch creates. This helps production tools, work orders, and planning screens reflect the correct output when you are producing products in batches.

Overview

What Product Batch Size does

A Product Batch Size tells FlexiBake how many sell-by units are produced by the product recipe as it is written in the product ingredients. This value is based on the amount of recipe or ingredient linked to the product and the quantity of sell-by units that amount creates.

Why this matters

Use Product Batch Size when:

  • You produce products in full or partial batches
  • You want production tools to plan output based on batch quantities
  • You want work orders in Schedule Production to reflect realistic batch groupings
  • You want product ingredient quantities to match the expected sell-by yield

Warning: Product Batch Sizes are referenced when working with production. If the batch size is inaccurate, production planning and work orders may not reflect how the product is actually made.

Before You Begin

Confirm the product ingredients are linked correctly

Before setting a Product Batch Size, confirm the product already has its required recipe or ingredient links in place.

  • If linking a recipe, the linked quantity should reflect the full batch quantity
  • If linking a Raw Material or ingredient directly, the quantity entered should represent the amount required for one full batch of the product

Note: If you need to change the size of a recipe itself, use Resize a Recipe rather than changing the Product Batch Size alone.

Set the Product Batch Size

Update the product ingredients
Step 1

Open the Inventory Centre and click Maintain Products.
Open Maintain Products from the Inventory Centre.

Step 2

Find the product you want to update, then double click it or click it once and select Edit.

Step 3

Click the Ingredients tab.

Step 4

At the bottom of the tab, link the appropriate recipe or Raw Material in the Ingredients section. You can press F2 on your keyboard or click F2 = List to choose from the available recipes and Raw Materials.

Step 5

Enter the quantity required for one full batch of the product. If linking a recipe, the full batch quantity may populate automatically when you move into the quantity field.

Step 6

Click Add to attach the ingredient or recipe to the product. Repeat as needed until all required items are linked.

Step 7

In the field above the grid, enter how many sell-by units are created in Ingredients Required To Produce. This value is your Product Batch Size.

Click OK to save the product.

How to Determine the Batch Size

Use sell-by units

The Product Batch Size should be entered as the number of sell-by units created by the linked ingredient or recipe quantity.

Example

If the linked recipe quantity creates enough finished product for 24 loaves, then the Ingredients Required To Produce value should be 24. If the product pack size changes how the product is sold, divide the linked quantity by the pack size to determine the correct sell-by output.

Tip: Think of Product Batch Size as the yield of one full product batch in the unit the product is sold in.

Where Product Batch Size Is Used

Production planning

Product Batch Size is referenced when using production tools in FlexiBake. If you use Enter Production, you can plan production based on product batch sizes.

Schedule Production and work orders

If you use Schedule Production, work orders may be limited to one per batch. Keeping the batch size accurate can help reduce the number of work orders generated and better reflect how your production team actually runs a batch.

Related Settings

Batch Time

Batch Time measures how long one full batch takes to produce, while Product Batch Size measures how much that batch produces. Both settings may be needed for accurate planning and labour tracking.

Note: Product Batch Size supports planning in batches, while Batch Time controls how long the batch takes to produce. These are related but separate settings.

Recipe Size

If the linked recipe yield itself is wrong, update the recipe rather than only adjusting the Product Batch Size field.

Troubleshooting

The batch size looks wrong in production

If production tools are showing too many or too few batches, review the linked ingredient or recipe quantities and then confirm the Ingredients Required To Produce value matches the actual sell-by output of a full batch.

Work orders are splitting unexpectedly

If Production is creating more work orders than expected, review whether the Product Batch Size is smaller than the real-world batch your team produces.

The quantity entered does not match expected yield

If the yield seems off, review:

  • the linked ingredient or recipe quantity
  • the pack size or sell-by unit
  • whether the recipe itself needs to be resized

Tip: If your production process is driven by recipe size first, confirm the recipe yield before updating the Product Batch Size.
